Jonathan Groff delivering his acceptance speech at the 2024 Tony Awards

Jonathan Groff, star of film, stage, and screen, took home the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role at the 2024 Tony Awards for his portrayal of Franklin Shepard in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along.

In his acceptance speech, he harkened back to his time growing up in Lancaster County, where he was seen on the EPAC stage in our 2002 production of Honk! and our 2004 production of Bat Boy.

20 years later, Jonathan has gone on to incredible success, including Spring Awakening (Melchior, OBC), Hamilton (King George III, OBC), and extremely successful revivals of Little Shop of Horrors and Merrily We Roll Along.

In film, Jonathan has been seen in The Matrix Resurrections, Knock at the Cabin, but found critical and commercial acclaim for his role as Kristoff in Disney’s Frozen, Frozen II, and other short films of the same title. His television work, namely his performances on Glee and Mindhunter, only added to his rising star.

His Tony Award win now puts him halfway to an EGOT, with him also being a Grammy Award-winner for the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Hamilton.

EPAC is so proud of the work Jonathan has done since the time he was on our stage, and we cannot wait to see what he accomplishes next in his still very young career!
